Postdoctoral Research Position, GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, Work Package 3
GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel (Germany) is hiring for a 2-year postdoctoral research position (ideal start date March 2027) to contribute to contribute to Work Package 3 of the EU Horizon Europe-funded OceanSOS project on Atlantic deep-sea food webs in the context of marine conservation. Focusing on the North Atlantic Current and Evlanov Sea basin (NACES) Marine Protected Area, the role will be dedicated to the documentation and quantification of species diversity, biomass and food web interactions from low to high trophic levels from Atlantic deep seas, and to generate and integrate data in food web modelling with focus on the mesopelagic zone. The work will involve seagoing expeditions in the Atlantic to apply net sampling and optical underwater observations of pelagic fauna (>1cm). Applications close on 14 October 2026.
Closing date for applications: 30 November 2026
Research Associate in Marine Biogeochemistry, Imperial College London, Work Package 3
Imperial College London (United Kingdom) is hiring for a fixed-term, 2-year research associate position based at their Silwood Park Campus to contribute to contribute to Work Package 3 of the OceanSOS project. The role will focus on identifying how seafloor topology influences the mesopelagic biological carbon pump, specifically looking at particle type, size and microbial remineralisation across a seamount and abyssal plain. The position is part of a wider team capturing the contributions of larger organisms, deep-sea communities and connections between the seafloor and the open ocean in the BCP. This role will involve seagoing expeditions in the North Atlantic (Summer 2027) and will use multiple techniques to determine the regional BCP, to then feed into the physical, food-web and statistical models used by the OceanSOS team. The post-holder will also facilitate fieldwork south of South Africa (early Summer 2027) and the samples collected from this region. Applications close on 30 November 2026.

Researcher in Physical Oceanography, Aarhus University, Work Package 2
The Department of Ecoscience at Aarhus University (Denmark) is hiring a full-time, fixed-term Researcher in Physical Oceanography (January 2027 – December 2030) to contribute to Work Package 2 of the EU Horizon Europe-funded OceanSOS project. Focusing on the North Atlantic Current and Evlanov Sea basin (NACES) Marine Protected Area, the role involves combining observational data, climate model outputs, and high-resolution numerical ocean modeling (CROCO) to investigate how ocean circulation drives bentho-pelagic coupling, ecosystem connectivity, and carbon export under climate change. Applications close on 30 September 2026.
Closing date for applications: 6 September 2026
Junior Postdoctoral Research Associate, OSPAR Secretariat, Work Package 5
The OSPAR Commission Secretariat is hiring a fixed-term Junior Postdoctoral Research Associate in London (January 2027 – August 2029) to contribute to Work Package 5 of the EU Horizon Europe-funded OceanSOS project. Positioned at the intersection of marine ecology, Earth system science, and international ocean governance, the role focuses on downscaling the Planetary Boundaries framework to build operational regional Safe Operating Space (SOS) decision-support models for Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (ABNJ). Applications closed on 6 September 2026.
