The Ocean SOS Planetarium Show is an ambitious undertaking central to the project's strategic objective: inspiring global action. The show will be designed and built specifically to disseminate the project's core themes and results, and to promote public awareness and ocean literacy. It will be immersive, exciting and, above all, offer engaging insights into the ocean and the collaborative effort needed to better understand and protect it.
Why a planetarium show?
A planetarium provides an immersive, sensory digital learning environment that caters to diverse audiences and can meaningfully bridge the gap between complex science and society. The impact of the Ocean SOS Planetarium Show with public audiences will be augmented by new online educational resources designed to support pre- and post-show learning. Particular focus will be given to improving awareness of ABNJ and how science and policy come together to support sustainable use of the ocean.
Development and dissemination
Consortium partner Dynamic Earth will develop and produce the show. It will be based around a compelling narrative that incorporates new data visualisations, as well as stories, methods and research outcomes from the work packages.
Due for completion in Month 36 of the project, the show will be made freely available to planetaria around the world to maximise dissemination of the project’s findings.
